Forth Promise Leith Docks, Edinburgh circa 2020.

Transendentally surveying the equilibrious watery green landscape a place, unique in character, fabulous, other worldly, visionary, unviels. An intoxicating mix of tranquillity, activity and sensory encounter. Commercial, societal, functional, frivolous all feeding into one expanse. Remnants and historic fragments revered. Quality shared via the myriad of experience.

Public places contemplative and animated, architecture and art interventions of all imaginings, intertwine man with nature. Canals, seashore, river, land, dock; potent habitats, visible from inumerable levels. Colour, music, noise, laughter pulsate around market and event.

The expansive dried dock with heavily tree planted areas, exude birdsong and woodland aromas. Dock wall structures offering shelter and scope for recreational activities and public space. Repiticiously circulating the top edge of the dock wall, cafebar appendages and observation pods track perimeter walls. Peering eyes penetrate the tree canopy to bathers soaking in hot tubs 15 meters below. Staircases and walkways form new access routes utilising dock walls to architecturally form, in part, a link to new cultural and educational buildings.

Glass lifts pierce the old dock walls forming direct vertical transport between drained dock level, ground level, roof top building level and elevated transport level.

Elevated maglev transport systems traverse the docks expansive territory. Translucent, illuminated connections physically span space, a vital link between past and present and the future vitality and growth of the area. In time offering new elevated connections from City Centre to Docks and crossing the Firth of Forth to Fife.

Dock walls form challenging surfaces for rock climbers and abseilers to pursue physical endeavours, afterwards migrating for relaxation to the urban beach set in the corner of the south and west facing dock walls. Retractable patterned canopies gleefully provide shelter from rain, wind or sun.

Vibrant, resourceful, replenishable and abundant - perfection of any one part in isolation rendered unsustainable without the sum of all parts.
